allen is the top u.s. commander in afghanistan. was nominated to become nato's supreme commander as well. he has denied any wrongdoing. so, how are these people linked to the scandal? how are they connected? follow us. we'll try to explain this. general patreaus resigned after admitting to having an extra marital affair with paula broadwell. a friend jill kelley asked to investigate harassing e-mails see whas receiving from paula broadwell. the "wall street journal" saying the fbi agent who initiated the investigation at kelli's request is under scrutiny. the agent has not been identified but allegedly sent kelley shirtless photos of himself. started with a complaint about harassing e-mails. he here's what we know about the woman who made that complaint, jill kelley, married to a cancer surgery, she has three daughters, lived in tampa, well-known among washington social circles. they have been friends with general patreaus and his family for five years. friends describe kelley as an innocent victim about e-mails accuse kelley of flirting with patreaus. how does this impact the careers of
. >>> thank you for joining us. i'm mike hydeck in for jc hayward today. the man police named the east coast rapist was scheduled to plead guilty in a virginia courtroom but apparently aaron thomas had a change of his mind. so what happened? let's get right to peggy fox live in manassas. what's the deal, peg? >> reporter: well, mike, aaron thomas was expected to plead guilty to two rapes and three counts of abduction with intent to defile. those charges go back to halloween night of 2009 when three teenage girls who were out trick or treating were abducted and two of them were raped. but today in court when the judge asked aaron thomas how he pleaded for the first rape charge, here's what he said. i don't know which is right or which is wrong. i don't know what i'm doing. the commonwealth's attorney says he wasn't surprised that aaron thomas did not plead guilty because of his previous erratic behavior. >> i certainly would not want him to plead guilty if he had any question about whether he should or not. if i'm not convinced that he's willing and -- ready, willing and able t
elissa harrington is on the ground with the latest information what can you tell us. >> reporter: there's mud and water everywhere. this is what we're seeing throughout several blocks in this daly city neighborhood. here here on lasaine and price street and police say that it appears a water main broke somewhere up the hill so the water has been gushing down flooding the streets. some cars have water going past their tires. we have some video a little bit earlier. let's bring that up. residents have been waking up. they tell me because of the sound of o hospitallers. they're -- helicopters. there are police out here, firefighters out here. and when residents walk outside and see this, a lot of them concerned. quite a few have been evacuated from their homes and last we heard, they were going to a nearby park. we have yet to speak with any of those people and are still trying to get updates from police and firefighters, but a a big mess clean up here. when we first arrived it looked like there was gushing water and at this point everything seems to be still. maybe they're getting
that brought down the head of the cia, general david petraeus. another u.s. general is caught in the same tangled web. john allen, top commander in afghanistan, is being investigated by the pentagon for allegedly sending inappropriate e-mails to a married woman, the same woman whose complaint of threatening e-mails from general petraeus' lover cracked the scandal wide open. barbara starr is trying to sort this out for us. it is rather complicated, what's the latest you're getting? >> it is still the same fundamental question for the last 24 hours, wolf. why is john allen being investigated and how on earth did he get caught up in this? marine corps general john allen denies an extramarital affair with jill kelly, the florida socialite whose concern over threatening e-mails led to an investigation that revealed an affair between cia director david petraeus and his biographer, paula broadwell. a pentagon official told reporters allen who commands the war in afghanistan is adamant he did nothing wrong. a senior official close to allen tells cnn of kelly there is no affair, she's a bored soci

greevey will be our guest, georgia congresswoman tom price and florida congresswoman debbie wasserman schultz joins us. it's tuesday, november 13th, "starting point" begins right now. >>> morning, welcome, everybody. our "starting point" this morning. breaking news. another top military general has now been linked to the sex scandal that forced out cia director david petraeus. forced him to resign. general john allen, the commander of u.s. and nato forces in afghanistan is now under investigation for alleged inappropriate communications with jill kelley. now investigators are said to be looking into the 20,000 to 30,000 pages of e-mails and other documents that he sent to her. kelley, of course, is the florida woman whose original complaint to the fbi about threatening e-mails inadvertently exposed the affair between general petraeus and paula broadwell. meantime a team of fbi agents searched broadwell's home in charlotte, north carolina, overnight, and spent nearly five hours there wrapping up just after 1:00 in the morning. "wall street journal" is reporting that the fbi agent who launched the petra

're with us today. and let's get started. first up, we just can't call it the petraeus scandal anymore. today, the u.s. general in charge of allied troops in afghanistan, the top commander john allen is himself the subject of a pentagon investigation of allegedly inappropriate communications with jill kelley. yes, that jill kelley, we're talking about the same tampa housewife whom david petraeus' then mistress paula broadwell apparently saw as rival. a whole new chapter in a saga that since last friday has been one bombshell after another. and so far, all of them have something to do with kelley. she's a volunteer military liaison at the air force base, home of the u.s. central command in tampa, florida. kelley complained to the fbi last spring when paula broadwell was having an affair with petraeus allegedly harassed her with jealous e-mails. petraeus admitted the affair with broadwell but denies any elicit contact with kelley. so does general allen who was scheduled for a senate confirmation hearing this very week to become nato's supreme allied commander. today that's on hold, but he will

chair kwame brown wille u.s. district court judge to learn his fate today. >> he resigned and pleaded guilty to bank fraud charges in june. melanie alnwick is live in northwest d.c. with the latest. >> reporter: good morning. you know, kwame brown actually has two sentencing hearings hearings today. the first in federal court on those bank fraud charged and then the second later this afternoon in d.c. superior court on campaign finance violation charges. now, as you mentioned, brown pleaded guilty in june. after a year-long investigation, the federal charges relate to providing false information on bank loan applications. one of the loan was for a 39- foot boat. brown also forged the signature of a friend on an application and doctored two forms to overstate his income by tens of thousands of dollars. the other charges go back to an audit by d.c.'s office of campaign finance. it found that brown's 2008 election campaign failed to report more than $400,000 in contributions an expenditures and that $239,000 wound up in the hands of a consulting company controlled by brown's brother. kwa
